I acquired this camera on a sad background. It was given to me by a friend before he passed away.
I actually acquired this camera in a very sad way. A very good friend was diagnosed with cancer back in August 2024 and was declared terminal soon after that. He had been a professional photographer - among many other things - and I had cooperated with him on many projects, worked with him, fished with him and been very close friends with him through many years.
He wanted to make sure that his used camera gear was put to good use after he was gone, and I made a deal with him to hand over my D700 to his brother and in turn receive his D850! On top of that he gave me his Nikon macro flash setup - the R1C1 system - with two flashes a commander unit and lots of other accessories plus a Nikon 105mm macro! If it wasn't for the sad circumstances I'd be a very happy kid ...
He is unfortunately gone now, and I will always think fondly of him when using this gear.
It was a gift - literally!
