Strobes to light up your subjects.

Nikon SB-900

The latest incarnation of Nikon's flagship on-camera flashes.

A jewelry photo project

I was commissioned to shoot a continuing series of images of jewelry for a web site. Here’s what I did.

Using Manfrotto Arms

I have been using the Manfrotto Arms extensively in stead of tripods and other camera platforms. Here are my experiences.

DIY macro flash tube

This neat little macro tool was originally made from a Pringles can. I decided to make an upgraded version.

Roundflash

The Roundflash is a very neat and practical Polish ringflash adapter, which collapses and expands like a Lastolite reflector.

Minolta Ringflash

My first ever ringflash, and a dedicated one built to do macro work. It did the job and was fine, but not really large or poweful enough for anything but closeup work.

Propac battery pack

I wound up with two of these battery packs, which wasn't really the plan, but has worked out anyway since I have two flashes.

Minolta HS5600 Flash

My first really intelligent flash. It had full integration with the late AF-bodies, very clever wireless control built-in and lots of power.

Nikon SB800

Nikon's classic workhorse flash. Terrible user interface, but a real performer and powerful enough to light up even a big scene. And I have two and could easily use one more.
