Exporting photos for the web

If your photos are going on the web, there are several things you can do to get small files, yet decent image quality

Why digital is better than film

I keep reading these articles from film photographers about why film is MUCH better than digital. Pardon my French, but BS!

The Lomography Petzval lens

Lomography has succeeded on almost all levels with their copy of the Petzval lens. The finished result is beautiful and a real piece of kit.

I don't use filters

I don't use physical filters on my lenses and I very rarely use digital filters on my image files

Uhmmm, pancakes...

I always loved the look of the ultra-compact pancake lenses. Now I own two.

The honest 35mm

For some reason some photographers seem to think that a 35mm lens is about as boring and bland as a lens can get. I beg to differ.

Sigma 8-16mm

The Sigma ultra wideangle zoom is a fantastic lens, but not easy to use and not perfect for all situations where a wideangle is useful

I stopped chimping

Yes I stopped looking frantically at the LCD on the back of my digital cameras after each and every shot. And I think it has made me take better pictures.

Arca-Swiss quick releases

I standardized my tripod quick releases and camera plates on the Arca-Swiss system a long time ago and haven't regretted it for a minute.

Macros for Nikon DX

I have Nikon DX bodies exclusively and shoot a lot of macro, so I bought both the 85mm f/3.5 and the 40mm f/2.8 DX Micro-Nikkors to supplement a couple of older macros I have.

I love (and I loathe) the Fuji X100

There's no doubt that the Fuji X100 is a fantastic camera, and I use mine all the time and love it. But man, there's a bunch of Fuji engineers who deserve a severe spanking!

Sigma 50mm f/1.4

I have a weakness for bright lenses and always had great experiences with Sigma. So when I wanted a bright 50mm, I found it natural to look closer at Sigma's offering.

What's in my bag

I see these articles and videos all over the web, and like them. Despite claiming the opposite, we're obsessed with gear, aren't we? Here is my gear list.

I shoot RAW for the future

There is an ongoing and almost eternal debate on the net about JPG versus RAW. I don't take part in it. I just shoot RAW and here is why.

Fun with fisheyes

I have had a couple of fisheye lenses in my long career with SLR's and have always considered them a lot of fun.

Nikon 35mm f/1.8

This lens is a no-brainer for any Nikon owner! It might not be the best lens Nikon ever made, but the quality to price ratio is unsurpassed.

Minolta MD 24mm f/2.8

A real eyeopener (litterally) and the start of my still ongoing wideangle craze

Sigma 20mm f/1.8

I've always liked two things in my lenses: wide angle and brightness. Combine the two and you have a winner!
